About Fyffe Callaway & Associates / Third Eye Creative Advertising

My company, Fyffe Callaway & Associates, is a business and broadcast communications consulting and media company. We specialize in refining communications and public relations strategies, delivering creative solutions and concepts, as well as offering writing and editing services. We also are media producers, working in video, both long and short form. We coach individuals in presentation skills for on-air professionals and those needing to meet the media as spokespersons for their businesses.

Clients in the beginning included television station groups such as Sinclair and individual stations such as KCBS in Los Angeles. Production projects have ranged from a documentary for public television, a music concert video, promotional videos for an Economic Development Corporation and a introductory video for a Visitor’s Center, as well as commercial television advertisements for a major Hospital and a Green Building Supply company. Work has also been with non-profits such as Indiana Afterschool Network, the Arts Council and the Indiana Writers Center. Writing and editing work has included editing a non-fiction book on personal development, writing presentations, grants and annual reports. Fyffe Callaway & Associates help clients stay on target with their marketing, branding, customer relations, advertising, public relations, media relations, community engagement, reputation management, online communications, and event management.

A secondary company, Third Eye Creative Advising, was created to seek clients in need of a communications coach and a critic who could offer big idea strategies to grow businesses and to refine goals. Creating both of the businesses entailed defining the services offered and determining the potential clients. Then it was necessary to identify the uniqueness of the skills and experiences of the principles of the companies, and the benefits of hiring FC&A. The companies both are ’boutique companies’ whose list of employers is purposefully kept small in order to provide individual services and attention. Creating strong personal relationships and delivering on promises are at the core of FC&A’s successes. I have worked in all areas of each company: as a news and station management consultant, producer/director of videos, writer, editor, talent coach, television set designer, head hunter for on-air talent for television stations, strategic planning and dreaming, and cable channel and public broadcast management.

About Nancy

Nancy Callaway Fyffe’s ground breaking and successful broadcast career began in Indianapolis at WLWI-TV (Channel 13) producing and directing a Peabody winning documentary series. One of those documentaries, Female Criminals, The Double Standard, was the first television documentary about women in prison, filmed at the oldest women’s prison in the country. She also produced fourteen half hour local public service shows a week and several special programs. She hosted a monthly talk show about local Indianapolis issues and directed evening newscasts. Nancy was the first woman to direct television in Indianapolis.

Later at KMBC-TV in Kansas City she continued on as the first woman television director in that market. Her assignments were news and special remote broadcasts. She produced the first computerized graphics promos aired on the station, and offered her acting talents to became the “TV 9 Cartoon Fairy” as part of a promotion for Saturday morning cartoons.

In Chicago at WLS-TV she became the first woman to direct prime time news shows for an ABC Owned Station, as well as being the first woman to direct news programs in the Chicago market. She also directed Emmy winning documentaries, ABC News Specials and ABC Network Sports programs.

Moving to New York she directed for ABC Network. Assignments included News Special Events, World News Tonight, Nightline, and Good Morning America.

Nancy developed and directed the award-winning “Signature” series for A & E while working freelance in New York City. She was the special creative consultant for the Emmy winning national documentary, “City Under Siege”, for the Fox Network.

At VH1 (part of MTV) in New York, Nancy was the Supervising Producer, managing production and writing for all taped segments for on-air and for live specials. Following a move to the West Coast as Vice President of Fyffe Callaway & Associates she was a broadcast news and management consultant for television stations around the country, including KCBS-TV in Los Angeles and the Sinclair Broadcast Group.

Recruited to run a public television station, Nancy returned to the Midwest to be the Station Manager for WTIU TV in Bloomington, IN. There she created a news department for daily on-air broadcasts, co-created the Friday Zone – an award winning syndicated children’s program – and directed and edited musical concerts and special programs that were syndicated internationally.

She produced the PBS syndicated documentary “Different By Design”, the story of the National Historical Landmarks of Architecture in Columbus, Indiana. It is the story of the exceptional collection of buildings in Columbus told through the seven awarded the Landmark designation in 2001.

She is now a freelance producer/director and communications and media consultant. Her services range from external and internal communications, to marketing strategy, to writing and editing, and producing creative materials for broadcast and syndication. She is a big idea person helping many clients think through next steps in their businesses and strategies for managing staff and stakeholders.

Grading:
Questions will receive either 0, 5, or 10 points based on their level of thoughtfulness, relevance, and depth.

A 10 point question… will demonstrate critical thinking about the industry that will be discussed. Questions will make appropriate reference to examples from the speaker’s biography or the assigned readings. Questions will also make correct and critical use of one or more key terms or concepts from course readings or lecture. For example, a 10 point question might ask “Your biography mentioned that you are a Senior Producer for CNN Digital. What kinds of demographic and psychographic data about your audiences do you have access to, and in what ways have you seen that information influence editorial meetings for better or worse?”
