Reflective Clinical Case Study
Word Limit: 3000 words (excluding reference list and title page) Task description This individual assessment item provides students with an opportunity to analyse, and discuss the care and management of a client/patient from their clinical practice. Specifically, the Reflective Clinical Case Study will enable students to examine the roles and responsibilities of nurses in the Australian Health Care System (as these articulate with their role as a beginning Registered Nurses), and demonstrate skills in reflective practice to ensure autonomy as a lifelong learner. Practical application Focus on a client/patient you have cared for during your clinical placement: 1. Include a brief overview of the client/patient’s condition, and presenting situation. You may include a brief outline the aetiology of the condition or disorder 2. Discuss your chosen client / patient case: 1. Identify and discuss the ongoing management and latest treatment modalities (interventions) for this condition/disorder using supportive evidence from the literature. 1. Identify and discuss the relevant nursing assessments, and nursing care for this condition /disorder, using relevant supportive nursing literature. 2. Critically reflect on your role in caring for the patient /client (Include supportive literature): 1. Reflect on your performances in provision of care for the client. You may like to use a reflective framework (e.g. Gibbs Reflective Cycle) to assist your reflection. You may choose an alternative framework of reflection if you prefer. 2. Analyse and discuss / evaluate your performance in relation to the ANMC (Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council) Competency Standards for Registered Nurses (You do not need to aIDress all domains or elements of each domain but ensure you identify which domain/s and elements you are discussing) Be sure to include both the positive and negative aspect of your care. 3. Identify what aspects you would change in future practice (i.e. your learning through reflection). In other words, if you were to care for similar patients in the future, what would you do differently? Why?
There are distinct sections to the essay, and these should be identifiable as your essay unfolds (Minimal heading may be used). See marking guide for weighting of each section. Your essay should include an appropriate introduction and conclusion and it is expected that you utilize relevant supportive literature in each section of your essay. You can use 1st person to write your reflective essay. See aIDitional Presentation Guidelines below.
PRESENTATION GUIDELINES Please ensure that your paper adheres to the following presentation principles: 1. Bullet points and numbering are NOT appropriate in this academic essay. 2. Use a separate page for the reference list. Do not supply a bibliography (i.e., only include references in the reference list that correspond with your in-text citations). Standard APA (6th ed.) referencing style is to be used consistently throughout your paper. 3. You must support your paper with a minimum of 15 appropriate references from the professional literature (which means information should be primarily sourced from authoritative sources such as peer-reviewed journals). NB: Literature published more than 5 7 years ago is not considered to be recent. The exception would be inclusion of literature that has influenced thought in the topic area, i.e., seminal work. 1. Provide an assignment that conforms to an acceptable standard for academic essay presentation, with page numbering, 1.5 double-line spacing, margins of at least 2 cm, and font size of at least 12 Arial/Times New Roman. You should include your student number in the footer of each page. Your assignment must be well written with correct spelling, sentence and paragraph structure. 2. Your essay must include an appropriate introduction and conclusion. 3. Minimal headings are permissible, however, all new concepts should be introduced and the essay should flow well.
