Essay Theme: One of the key concepts in sociology is the sociological imagination. Throughout the course we have discussed the ways in which social forces impact our lives and life experiences. This is the sociological imagination: the ability to see and understand the how and the why of social forces. Our lives play out at the micro-sociological level, in the course of social interaction with others, but those micro-level interactions are also shaped by broader, macro-sociological social forces that shape our life experiences. As a student of sociology, I want you to apply that understanding to your own life experiences. In this essay, discuss how your learning in this course has advanced your sociological imagination.

Background: The goal of this paper is to demonstrate to me that you have a stronger sociological imagination at the end of the course than when we began several weeks ago. In other words, provide evidence in your paper that you have a deeper understanding of the key concepts in the course and how they are relevant to your past, current, and future life experiences. Here are some recommendations:

• Refrain from too much focus on your educational journey, since you already did that in a previous paper.
• Identify those key concepts and topics in the course that resonated with you and your observations of society and social interaction. Construct your paper around those key concepts and make the connections to your life experiences and observations. Those connections become the examples you use in the paper.
• It is not necessary to define key concepts; instead, use them in your paper in such a way that your understanding is clear. Keep in mind the importance of thinking in terms of clusters of concepts. The ideas represented by these concepts are often best understood when using them in combination with other concepts.
• Organize your paper around 4-5 paragraphs, with a strong introductory paragraph, 3 well-developed body paragraphs, and a short concluding paragraph. Keep in mind the 1,000-word minimum for length of paper. It is okay to go over the 1,500 words.
• Have someone else proofread your paper for writing errors and typos. The goal should be zero writing errors.
• No need to have a separate title page; simply place your name, our course name, and the title of your paper on the top of the first page.

Although outside resources are unnecessary, if you do use outside resources, make sure to include a Works Cited page (APA formatting).
