Literacy research has established an inter-connective relationship between reading, writing, and language. Teachers of all content areas should know about this relationship and how to foster its development. Knowledge of this relationship influences pedagogical decisions, informs selection of curricula, and affects student learning. Teachers of secondary students design comprehensive literacy lessons that enhance the curriculum and adapt instructional approaches to meet the literacy needs of individual students.
You have been assigned to co-teach with another instructor outside of your own content area. The lesson is meant to focus on the remediation of instruction to serve specific student needs.
For this assignment, use the COE Lesson Plan Template to create a lesson plan for the two students you previously created a literacy action plan for during Topic 3. The lesson plan needs to demonstrate your knowledge of comprehensive literacy instruction.
Design and adapt the lesson plan to include cross-curricular instructional approaches, using a wide variety of quality traditional print, digital, and online resources that meet the needs of the students. The lesson plan needs to include differentiated activities and focus on developing language comprehension, strategic knowledge, and reading-writing connections.
Note: Remember this should be a lesson you have permission to implement with a small group of students in your field experience classroom during Topic 6.
