1. Please write a 500-600 words (double-spaced) introduction script to the topic (Communications between family members). please try to make it nice, neat, ear cathy, and wholesome, because the more in-depth content will come in the body paragraphs presented by my fellow group members.

2. I asked my professor about what he would like to see in the intro (my part ) and how it leads to the other parts and this was his response: “I would suggest showing the effects on family relationships by substance abuse and ways to effectively address this. You could include how this influences management of emotions and conflict potential that can arise. Additionally, aspects of self-esteem and listening skills could be included. Would be good to see a working outline of the topic with ideas that you developed in group. Then I can give you further feedback.”

3. write a brief outline that expresses the area that you’ve focused on when writing the script (template for the outline is provided in the word doc attached below).

please write this script as if you were writing it for yourself as an exit project!

GROUP PRESENTATION
First Day of Presentations: 7/28/20
INSTRUCTIONS
• The purpose of this assignment is for you to analyze and improve your interpersonal
communication skills. Your group will prepare a 20-30-minute teaching session on a
topic that consists of individual speeches from each member of group. You are to
research and put together a presentation that teaches the class about what you
learned in your research.
• Each group will submit one (1) group outline. Only one person needs to submit it on
Canvas, and it will automatically be submitted for all other members of the group.
• The next step is the presentation of the group. Each member of group will prerecord
3-5 minutes of your individual part of the presentation.
• For this assignment you will have group pages on Canvas to communicate with your
group. Use the discussion board to communicate wit the other members of the
group.
• It also recommended to connect also directly and talk with fellow group members. I
would suggest phone call, Google Meet, or meet with Zoom.
GRADING
The group outline and group effort are 20pts.
Individual speech of group members is 40 pts.
Total possible points for assignment is 60 pts.
Choosing Topic
•
•
•
Please choose a topic of interest to your group but it must relate to interpersonal
communication. If we talked about something in class that interested you, let me
know and I will help you to choose a specific topic.
Please clear your topic with me in advance. I will be able to help tell you if it is too
broad or too narrow a topic. A presentation on communication or nonverbal
communication in general would be far too broad. Presentations on any of the class
topics (nonverbal, language, etc.) are too broad as well.
You may choose a narrower topic under any class topic such as Slang, American Sign
Language, or sexism in language that might be good topics under language. Under
nonverbal communication, you might choose gestures, eye gaze, or facial expressions. You may also want to choose a topic that relates to your major or another
class you are taking. You will receive overview with sample topic ideas.
Group Outline
The length should be1-3 pages with works cited page listing four sources that are not from
the textbook but from credible sources such as the Cuyamaca library. The outline needs to
include at least two communication problems in your chosen topic. When you write about
these problems use the terminology and principles reviewed in this course. You will be able
to find examples when you research your topic.
Example of one communication problem:
Listening skills in Relationships:
“One of the biggest problems my husband and I face are our listening skills. He tends to stage hog,
which makes me feel as though my ideas are not as important as his. I never feel fully listened to. I
tend to pseudo listen, which leads to …”
Individual Presentation
Each team member will prerecorded speech and share with instructor. You are required to
teach the information clearly, accurate, and interesting. Please be as creative as you can. You
may use props, costumes, or anything that enhances your part of the presentation.
Each group presents the two communication problems that were addressed in the outline.
Part of the assignment is to coordinate with group members who does what part of the
presentation. Each recorded part should connect with other parts of the presentation.
You can review and download sample outline on Canvas.
