AIU Challenges I Am Experiencing While Conducting a Literature Search Paper Main Question Post
What challenges are you experiencing as you are conducting your literature search and critically analyzing the articles you are finding?
I am experiencing a frustrating level of self-doubt and feeling like an impostor wondering how I got here. Doing the premise made me realize that I needed to change my research question, as I did not
see the emerging story until I put it all together. I thought I had a good idea on the gap to pursue, but I was mistaken. While analyzing the articles that I find, I have noticed a tendency toward fixation on
misspellings, consecutive repeat of word or series of words, etc. Instead of being able to focus on pertinent issues of critically analyzing for method, literature review, implications, and so on, I find
myself being drawn into editing mistakes. Some of my references are within the past five years but not all. I worry that because of the difficulty in finding relevant articles beyond the ones already
found, the ones I do find may be deemed too tangential.
What strategies have you been using to address these challenges?
I have been trying to remind myself that this is a journey that every person pursuing a doctorate has had to go through. The Stadtlander text (2015) has been helpful in guiding me on how to break to
the different sections of an article, what to look for, how to analyze. The entirety of Chapter 9, not just pages 89-91, contains relevant information. I do need to find a way to focus on the important
elements more.
