The two elements can be about the same project (which I suggest is a sensible thing to do!) or they can focus on different examples.
Please bring your 600 word written work and a draft poster ( An A4 printed version of a single power point slide in colour if possible ) to the session on 4th November 2013.
If anyone has problems printing their poster please send it to me electronically the Friday (1st November) before the session and I can try to print it.

These will be shared within the group for peer feedback in order to inform the development of the summative poster assessment component as outlined below.
Examples of posters are on the elp. These have been developed by previous students but please note their assessment was not exactly the same and so the content of their posters is different to what is required for yours. They are useful to look at in terms od structure , layout , creativity etc.
The module will be summatively assessed by:
1. Students will produce an electronic academic poster which critically analyses collaborative working issues within a published collaborative public health project.

The electronic poster will provide the opportunity to present a visual representation of key issues relating to an example of public health collaborative working.
It will include, for example, critical analysis of:
€¢ methodologies for involving community and key stakeholders in the development of a collective, empowering approach to public health improvement
€¢ the process, strengths and limitations of community and cross sector collaboration in a public health context
€¢ the rationale and effectiveness of collaborative working in a public health project.
€¢ the leadership and management skills required to work collaboratively.

The poster will be developed using a power point slide and is not expected to be printed. Therefore only 1 single power point slide should be developed. Examples and templates and useful tutorials area available in the elp.
2. A 2500 word essay that critically discusses and evaluates the importance of management and leadership within public health.

It will include, for example, critical consideration of:

€¢ Theories and models of leadership and management and how these apply to public health.
€¢ Models/ approaches to public health service/ project planning.
€¢ The principles of performance management and resource allocation in public health services
€¢ The skills needed for management and leadership in a public health context.

Students may wish to use examples from their own practice and / or the literature to help identify and critically discuss the above issues.
. Please submit a hard copy of the abstract and poster to the Assignment Receipting office, C011, Main Building, CLC(w) and an electronic copy of the poster

Marks will be awarded for:
The written essay
Discussing and critically analysing leadership and management theories and models within public health. (40%)
Demonstrating an understanding and application of management and leadership theory as applied to public health working.( 40%)
Identification and analysis of the skills required to lead and manage public health service activities.( 20%)
The academic poster

Please note students must pass both elements of the assessment and that each element of the assessment will be worth 50% of the total mark.
The general postgraduate marking grid and the poster rubric found at the end of the handbook outline the different criteria that will be take into account in the marking of the two elements of the assessment
Plagiarism and how to avoid it

Plagiarism is the copying of ideas, images or words directly or indirectly from another source without fully acknowledging that source, thereby taking credit for the specified material. It is treated as academic misconduct in Higher Education and disciplinary procedures are in place to deal with anyone engaging in plagiarism. Students are also expected to take reasonable precautions to guard against unauthorised access by others to their work.

The Academic Regulations for Northumbria Awards (ARNA €“ see section 7.2) include a full description of how plagiarism and other forms of academic misconduct such as cheating or ghosting, are defined and dealt with. Students should be aware that these forms of misconduct are taken very seriously, and can lead to grave consequences for any student found guilty of them. Students in HCES are reminded that academic misconduct can also be viewed as professional misconduct and as breaching professional Codes of Practice:
