I have always agreed with the saying,” Quality over Quantity”. When i first read this prompt, i was so set on what i believed to be true that it was hard to see both sides. But after reading the textbook chapters, and really allowing my mind to be open is when i understood why some people may choose whichever statement they choose.
Statement 1: “Qualitative research methods are the best!” When you have qualitative research, according to the textbook it is where ” researchers seek insight through in depth collection of information, hopefully resulting in a new hypothesis” It can help the researcher identify, discover and describe whatever variables that really need to be studied. When doing qualitative research, there doesnt necessarily have to be alot of information. It can be a small amount of information, yet it can mean so much or leave such an impact to the readers.
Statement 2: “Quantitative research methods are the best!” According to the textbook, the definition of quantitative research ” seeks objectivity through the testable hypotheses and carefully designed studies”. With that, you would want to quantify what is happening with variables in the study that is being conducted. When it comes to quantitative research, there usually is a lot of information or research. It can be pages and pages of information but no real meaning. It could be alot of empty words, but sometimes more information can be better because at least all of your ideas and research has plenty of back up support and details.

Statement 1: Qualitative research methods are the best
Utilizing the scientific method, researchers apply qualitative methods in testing hypotheses. Our reality is socially constructed and always changing. Qualitative methods rely on process and meaning in order to affect reality which is an ever changing concept. In order to accomplish this task, qualitative methods emphasize people’s lived experiences. This lends to the idea that the researcher and the researched aren’t mutually exclusive. Crawford states that through qualitative methods “researchers gather the data and draw conclusions on the basis of their observations” (Crawford, 2019, p.70) Qualitative researchers look for patterns asking themselves what is happening and what can be discovered through critiquing thought processes. By utilizing this inductive logic one can understand how variables fit together. Two variables (x and y) in a study may seemingly be unrelated, qualitative methods allow the researcher to be aware of other variables within a study that may be affecting results. Qualitative methods are generally better because results are directly attributed to an individual’s lived experiences and therefore much more relatable in real-world applications. All qualitative data can be quantified in some way the latter is not true.
Statement 2 Quantitative research methods or the best
Quantitative studies rely on carefully constructed studied and come to conclusions based on the findings yielded by statistical relevance. Quantitative studies are those that can be replicated under any conditions. Terms like validity and reliability are constants. Quantitative research methods are far greater than any other due to the nature of the large amount of data that can be representative of the research participants. Conclusions are not drawn from people’s subjective experiences they are drawn from statistics (Crawford, 2019). Quantitative research studies are much more concerned with objectively quantifying data versus looking for patterns in interviews. Results from quantitative studies can be applied to large groups of interest and therefore have a far greater impact in the field of psychology as a science.
